Lyric of the Day: Otis Redding, Steve Cropper

Sittin’ in the mornin’ sun
I’ll be sittin’ when the evenin’ come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch ’em roll away again

-Otis Redding, (Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay : first verse

Until something equally great comes along, this is my favorite Otis Redding song. I first heard it through a Justin Nozuka cover (ooh, that reminds me – I’ll have to post some Justin Nozuka up here soon), and I instantly fell in love with the tune.

This song is all melancholy charm. Despite its drifter listlessness, I can’t help but smile and tap my foot and want to do a little dance.
